I found the inspiration of my new bridal collection, reading the famous book of F.H. Burnett "The Secret Garden".
I fell in love with this book and the following quote revealed to me a great truth about life:
...there must be lots of magic in the world , but people don't know what it is like or how to make it. Perhaps the beginning is just to say nice things are going to happen until you make them happen ...
My beautiful job makes me feel like a magician sometimes: I meet a bride-to-be for the first time, whom I know nothing about but yet I can feel all her desires and expectations about the most beautiful day of her life: her wedding day.
I start picturing her dream dress the instant I meet her...and the beautiful journey starts. I love accompanying the brides during the months that lead to the wedding day. It is a privilege to share all the emotions with them. That's one of the reasons why I love my job!
And now follow me, we are going to visit "my secret garden". Let's open the door to my beautiful world.
Opening doors is a metaphor, it means opening the hearts and feeling others in a compassionate way. My job is a wonderful way to do this. Everything starts with the first meeting. A brief chat can be a good first step to begin imagining the dream dress of my bride and start designing it.
Once we have the draft, all the technical procedures can begin: pattern making, fabric cutting and everything is ready for the first fitting. I can feel all the emotions coming.
So exciting!
My tools are really simple but at the same time essential...my scissors, pencils, meter, pattern paper, my mascot, Billy, and my glasses, of course.
The dream dress is in my heart and in my mind since the beginning. Every step is crucial to the creation of it and I am always very focused during this process.
My mannequin is 32 years old, she has accompanied me during all the years of my career, she has worn so many dresses and...she is simply the perfect companion.
Yes My dummy is a "she" because she has so many names, all the names of my brides, and while I am working I imagine the bride, I can feel how she is feeling whilst she is waiting for our second meeting and first fitting.
I start thinking about the meeting, that first look in the mirror and all the feelings involved... the mother, the best friend, the sister or the brother...
That mirror will tell us so many things and I can't wait to witness that.
Every time I feel the same emotions as if it was the first time. I love this journey!
So...Here I am, ready to put all I need in my luggage and leave to meet my brides for our first special encounter. Great emotions are waiting for me. This is what my job is made of... emotional encounters! I am a #personaldesigner and I work worldwide, but I chose England for my special launch because I have always thought of it as a bit of a Magic Land, since my adolescence, when I used to love reading Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, George Eliot and many more.
